CHI RHO – The Secret

CHI RHO – The Secret

Feature films & TV 2008

Synopsis

In 2011, world-renowned Bible scholar Professor Petersen is kidnapped by Hreel, an emissary of evil whose mission is to alter and undo the stories of the Bible — and with them the foundations of Western culture. The only clue Petersen leaves behind for his daughter is a magical golden cube, the Cubus Temporis. Twelve-year-old Cora Petersen discovers that by selecting the right Bible passage on the cube she can travel through time. Her first jump takes her roughly 2,000 years into the past, to Jerusalem, where she meets Habib — a thirteen-year-old runaway who knows the Holy Land like his own pocket — and the Wonderers, a quartet of musical animals. Together they pursue Hreel and the captive professor through Old Testament and New Testament episodes (Jonah and the whale, the tower of Babel, Joseph and his brothers, Daniel in the lions' den, the Good Samaritan, the Last Supper and many more), each time having to ensure the biblical events still play out as written while saving Cora's father.

Pipeline

Pixable Studios delivered the 3D modelling and animation of the show's two key technological characters — the mechanical owl and the Cubus Temporis time-travel cube — across 10–120 shots per episode, plus the surrounding particle and water / wave VFX. The work was 2D-cel-shaded so the 3D characters integrated cleanly with the show's traditional 2D backgrounds, making the hybrid pipeline the central technical contribution to the 26-episode run.

Production Notes

CHI RHO – Das Geheimnis is the original German title; the international working English title used in the project page ("CHI RHO – The Secret") corresponds one-to-one. The series is a single-season, 26-episode arc that aired in two batches (13 episodes from 1 November 2010 plus 13 episodes from 13 April 2011)
