Synopsis

Western Algarve, 1943. In the midst of World War II, Portugal has declared neutrality, but in the isolated village of Aljezur reality is very different. German air raids on Allied ships off the coast spread fear among a population still haunted by a past marked by witchcraft.

Celeste, a young orphan from a heretic family, is accused of being the heir to this evil. Betrayed and exiled from the village, she sets out to uncover the truth about her parents' death, her own identity, and to take revenge on those who condemned her — while the growing Nazi presence in the region hides dark secrets of its own.

A coming-of-age tale of mystery, superstition and resistance to oppression that questions the malleable nature of truth.
