Synopsis
Two-game action-RPG series from German developer Deck13 Interactive, in the
near-future industrial dystopian universe of the megacorporation CREO.
The Surge (2017): Welcome to CREO, the megacorporation saving our world. A
catastrophic event knocks the player out during their first day on the job; they wake up bonded to a heavy-grade exoskeleton, in a destroyed section of the complex, with robots gone haywire, augmented co-workers driven insane and rogue AI all out to kill them. Combat is tight and visceral, with a dynamic targeting system that lets the player aim at specific limbs to dismember and loot the equipment attached ("you loot what you dismember").
The Surge 2 (2019): On the way to Jericho City the player's plane is shot down by a mysterious storm and crash-lands in the outskirts; they wake up weeks later in a derelict detention facility inside the city. Soldiers enforce martial law, robots rampage, and a dark, expanding nanostorm looms over the cityscape. The sequel expands the arsenal — weapons, armours, abilities, implants and a customisable combat drone — and trades the linear CREO complex for a sprawling, devastated open city.
