The Settlers - Rise of an Empire
Synopsis
The sixth game in The Settlers series. The single-player campaign is set in the same fictional universe as The Settlers: Heritage of Kings, many centuries after the events of that game. The player takes on the role of a king tasked with re-uniting the once prosperous, now war-torn and divided Darion Empire. Joined by a group of loyal knights, he is opposed by the Red Prince — a dictator determined to be crowned emperor — and the Prince's senior-most general, Crimson Sabatt. The Eastern Realm expansion continues the story several months later, pitting the king against a woman claiming to be a goddess and the cult that follows her. The game emphasises city-building over combat, with a streamlined economy, four climatic zones and seasonal weather effects, and (a series first) female settlers who fall in love and marry.

Production Notes
In designing Rise of an Empire, Blue Byte set out to identify the "Settler gene" and combined popular mechanics from across the series — road networks (Settlers I and II), military outposts (I, II, III, IV), the link between military strength and city prosperity (IV) and heroes/taxation/soldier salaries (Heritage of Kings) — while scaling combat back from Heritage of Kings and simplifying the economic model.
