Mein Deutschland

Mein Deutschland

Feature films & TV 2009

Synopsis

Three-part documentary marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. The series spans German history from the dual state founding in 1949 to reunification in 1990, told through the personal, private memories of more than 60 prominent contemporary witnesses from politics, culture, entertainment and sport. Each guest reflects on what they associate with Germany and the idea of Heimat — childhood after the war, life in two German states, and the fall of the Wall — combining intimate recollection with the otherwise anonymous concept of nationhood. Broadcast as Das Erste's second flagship anniversary strand alongside "60 x Deutschland — Die Jahresschau".
